Does Trintellix Help With Anxiety

You Show Symptoms Of Serotonin Syndrome

Trintellix (Brintellix) Update, Anxiety, Sleep, and Klonopin (Clonazepam)!

Although antidepressants are meant to help you feel better, in some cases an antidepressant may combine with other medications you are taking or foods you are eating and lead to serotonin syndrome, an uncommon condition involving an overabundance of serotonin in the body, the Cleveland Clinic states.

Symptoms to watch out for, Lim says, include fever, aches, shakes, sweats, fatigue, irritability, a bad headache, confusion, agitation, restlessness, dizziness, difficulty seeing or walking, muscle twitching, muscle tension, or jaw clenching.

Typically, serotonin syndrome happens within days or weeks of starting an antidepressant or after a dose increase, says Lim. The most common factors that affect your risk of serotonin syndrome, per the Cleveland Clinic, are:

  • Too much of one medication that affects your serotonin levels
  • Multiple medications that affect your serotonin levels at the same time

How Trintellix Works To Treat Depression

The FDA, drug researchers, and drugmakers all admit the precise action of how antidepressants work is unknown.4,12 There has been much research done to clarify the mechanisms of action and how these relate to mental illness, but so far nothing definitive has been established beyond some quite detailed theories and hypotheses, all as yet unproven according to published research in The Lancet.11

Side Effects Of Trintellix

There are a few low-risk side effects associated with taking Trintellix, the main side effect being potential weight gain. However, weight gain is a common side effect for most antidepressants.

It may be that the patient is taking more interest in food now that their serotonin levels have increased, whereas, in the past, they may have had less interest in food for pleasure or even sustenance.

Other common side effects include:

  • Abnormal bleeding or bruising, especially if you also take a blood thinner medication, such as Coumadin®
  • Visual problems, such as vision changes, eye pain, and eye swelling/redness
  • Low sodium levels

Weight gain is the main side effect of nearly all antidepressant medication, and SSRIs, in particular, are more likely the cause of weight gain in patients. Increased levels of serotonin create an increased mood and may increase appetite. This weight gain is best managed by controlling caloric consumption, good sleep routines, and creating healthy, active habits.

Patients will be more likely to embark on and stick to healthy habits due to elevated moods, but weight gain may still be a factor.

Sticking to an eating and sleeping schedule, paired with an awareness of caloric consumption, may be the only method to control potential weight gain. It is essential to plan and pair these healthy regimens along with taking prescription antidepressant medications.

Has Anyone Had Success With Trintellix

Strattera and trintellix medication update (for anxiety, ADHD and depression)
nellie1990

It’s been a while since I posted, my update is I’ve been on Alprazolam for nearly two months now and have seen various psychologists, I do talk therapy at least once a week, guided meditation in the morning, walk at least 20 minutes every night, and have cut out all fried, fast, and overtly sugary foods . The prescription my GP wrote for my anxiety is the 1mg Alprazolam to take one or two pills three times daily. 1mg is really strong – it certainly takes away anxiety/panic but also makes me too drowsy to function. Breaking the pill in half barely takes the edge off and I’ll still feel very anxious, and have even had panic attacks in what I find to be stressful situations . My routine has become a half pill in the morning, full in the afternoon, half again in the evening for a total of 2mg a day which I think is relatively safe, but it’s obviously not practical or effective. A big trigger for my anxiety is any GI problems like nausea, vomitting, and diarrhea, so I refused seeking out antidepressants until I saw that I am not getting any better with the changes I’ve made so far and got desperate.

Side Effects Of Antidepressant Medications

All medications can have side-effects. Some people experience no side-effects. Others may find the side-effects distressing. In most cases, side-effects lessen as treatment continues.

Treatment is usually started at a low dose, to minimize side-effects, and then slowly increased until the ideal dose is found. The ideal dose is one that provides the greatest benefit with minimum side-effects.

If you are experiencing side effects, check the information given to you by your doctor or pharmacist on the specific effects of any drug you have been prescribed. If side-effects are not mild and tolerable, it is best to continue taking your medication as prescribed but let your doctor know as soon as possible. Your doctor may:

  • encourage you to wait a little longer for the side-effects to fade
  • adjust your dose
  • suggest you take the medication at a different time of day
  • prescribe other medications to help control side-effects
  • change your medication
  • stop medication treatment and suggest a different type of treatment approach.

Side-effects vary depending on the type of medication. More information on side-effects is included for each type of types of antidepressant.

Consult your healthcare provider for advice. He or she will weigh the benefits of taking an antidepressant versus the risk to the baby. Neonates exposed to certain antidepressants, including SSRIs, in the third trimester of pregnancy, have developed complications.

If you are already on Trintellix or Lexapro and find out that you are pregnant, consult your OB-GYN immediately for advice. If you are breastfeeding, consult your OB-GYN as well.

Getting Off Of Trintellix

I was on Trintellix for three months. The next time I visited my psychiatrist, I told him about the good , but I also had to tell him about the bad . He became alarmed when I told him that I felt “manic” on some days.

“I’m glad you told me that,” he said while taking notes. “That’s not a good sign at all. So, I think the smartest thing to do is to take you off of Trintellix.”

And just like that, the mood swings and frequent irritability stopped.

That was how I went back to taking Paxil. My panic attacks are less frequent and severe, and it keeps my social anxiety to a minimum. I still experience drowsiness, and my husband jokes about my 5 pm naps, but I’m able to fight it a little better with the help of a good diet and exercise.

Trintellix is different for everyone. Some people might experience manic episodes and mood swings while taking it, but some may not. Everyone is different, so be sure to take note of changes whenever you try a new antidepressant. If in doubt about a side effect, tell your doctor about your worries immediately.

Rational Pharmacologic Approach To Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Comprehensive, evidence-based guides to direct treatment of generalized anxiety disorder are limited, with one noteworthy exception being the Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Anxiety, Posttraumatic Stress and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders . In this sizeable review, the authors stratified treatment interventions according to established efficacy, quality of evidence, and tolerability and safety considerations furthermore, they proposed a hierarchy of first-, second-, and third-line monotherapy options as well as ranked adjunctive treatment options. The authors concluded that SSRIs and SNRIs along with pregabalin should be considered first-line treatments. They characterized TCAs, BZDs, vortioxetine, bupropion XL, buspirone, quetiapine, and hydroxyzine as second-line treatments. They qualified miscellaneous antidepressants and valproic acid in rare formulations as third-line treatments. Finally, for adjunctive treatment, they favored pregabalin over second-generation antipsychotics .
