What Is The Primary Cause Of Depression
Theres no single cause of depression. It can occur for a variety of reasons and it has many different triggers. For some people, an upsetting or stressful life event, such as bereavement, divorce, illness, redundancy and job or money worries, can be the cause. How To Overcome Fear Anxiety And Worry
Anxiety is the natural result when our hopes are centered in anything short of God and His will for us. Billy Graham
When Billy Graham wrote those words in 1965, no one knew how true they would be 50 years later.
At its best, anxiety distracts us from our relationship with God and the truth that He is Lord of heaven and earth . At its worst, anxiety is a crippling disease, taking over our minds and plunging our thoughts into darkness.
But God wants so much more for us than to walk through life full of fear, worry and anxiety.
Do not be anxious about anything, the Bible tells us in the book of Philippians, chapter 4, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Our instructions dont stop there. The chapter goes on to tell believers exactly what we should focus on. And its not fear, terrorism, illness, death or evil.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in mepractice these things, and the God of peace will be with you .

Gods Promise To Be With Us When We Are Anxious
When anxiety feels crippling and we are struggling to overcome it, God promises to be with us. His presence is one of the most powerful antidotes against worry.
Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or in dread of them, for the Lord your God is the One who is going with you. He will not desert you or abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:6
For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
Do not fear, for I am with you Do not be afraid, for I am your God.I will strengthen you, I will also help you,I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Some Thoughts On Your Thoughts
Ive always been a worrier and have struggled with the downward spiral of worry since I was a child. Im sure many of you can relate, as this seems to become more and more of a problem now with the amount of information being thrown at us every day.
I dont watch the news very oftennot because I want to put blinders on, but because it causes me anxiety if I keep up with it daily. The whole premise of news channels are to get you to keep watching by using scare tactics. You keep coming back because of the what if theyve taunted you with.
While there are reasons to keep up with the news, not all outlets are healthy for our minds. You know the peoplethe ones who live with the news channel on 24/7 and those who fill up their Facebook feeds with every terrifying article they come across. We have to strike a heathy balance between feeding our mind with knowledge and feeding it with fear.
"As we think, we change the physical nature of our brain. As we consciously direct our thinking, we can wire out toxic patterns of thinking and replace them with healthy thoughts.-DR. CAROLINE LEAF from Switch on Your Brain

Thankfulness Can Relieve Anxiety
This is not always easy. Often it can be quite hard depending on the situation. I regularly meet with people who have no job, have lost custody of their children, are in debt because of legal fees, or have some other calamity going on. It can make no sense to them to hear, Be thankful and happy and trust God.
But, I do tell them, Try very hard to think of even the smallest thing that is going right and say, Im grateful for this. Its a struggle for them, but it begins to shift the atmosphere if they can be thankful. The verse above says that we ought to enter the gates with thanksgiving and then into his courts with praise.
This is a spiritual tool that still helps us even today. Begin to say thank you for the smallest gifts and benefits and praise God. This enables you to enter into His presence and His presence starts to work on the anxiety on your behalf. Its like the sun coming out and driving away clouds.
What Does The Bible Say About Worry
If we are not to worry, what is our alternative? The Word of God gives us that answer. Each time we are told to not worry, to not be anxious, we are indeed taught what to choose instead. Trust God.

One day a man was taking a hike along a beautiful mountain trail that he knew well. He had hiked here many times before, and he knew the exact spot he wanted to stop to take in the view.
This morning was particularly beautiful, and he couldnt wait to get there. It was right on the edge of what was at least a hundred-foot drop, so he always made sure to watch his step a bit more carefully as he approached.
He was not at all disappointed. The view was spectacular! He leaned in a bit to really catch it all and feel the moment. Unfortunately, he didnt realize that the rain the evening prior had softened the soil just enough that it was soft and slick.
His foot suddenly slipped out into the air above the chasm. He lurched backwards and fell on his back on the edge of the cliff. He knew his feet were in the air and he had completely lost control. The man instinctively reached back, desperate to grab something–anything. Sure enough, about 15 feet down his hand found a tree root sticking out of the face of the cliff. He grabbed and held on for dear life.
One more time the voice, Do you really, really trust me–with your life? The man, Oh yes Lord, I trust you with all things! With my life! Please help me, Lord!
Then let go.

Matthew : 34 So Dont Worry About Tomorrow For Tomorrow Will Bring Its Own Worries Todays Trouble Is Enough For Today
Now some worriers may read this scripture and think oh no, I have trouble and worries coming tomorrow and it will freak them out even more, but let me give you my perspective on this scripture. A lot of peoples worry comes from thinking about too much at one time. They are thinking about what they have to do today, whats on the schedule next week, where they want to be in their career next year and so on. Their mind is being pulled this way and that way and its all over the place. They are worried about today, tomorrow, next week, and 10 years from now. Its just too much! So what this scripture is saying is to focus. Dont get so ahead of yourself that you become panic about whats to come. So how do you do this? Well, you can do what is called compartmentalization. Focus on one thing at a time. If you are working on one thing, dont wander off and think about something else. Stay focused on the task at hand. Another way to help with this is to plan. Creating schedules and plans for your month or even your quarter can be helpful in not getting overwhelmed with what you need to do. So now, each day you know what needs to be done and you dont have to worry about tomorrow because everything is spelled out for you. So give compartmentalizing a try. I know we live in a multitasking society, and we constantly have access to media 24/7, but try to focus on one thing at a time and see how it decreases your worries.
Bible Verses About Anxiety Can Be Calming
It can be challenging to find peace and calm amid a stressful and pressing situation. We always want to control the problem, so we feel powerless when it gets out of hand and anxiety creeps in. God offers His help in handling our storms because no matter how impossible a situation may seem, He is still in control. The best way for us to remember this is to go back to His Word. When we read Bible verses about anxiety, how God has the power to handle them, and our circumstances, the truth in His Word can calm our fears.

Anxiety And The Bible Theme : Anxiety Came Into Existence When The World Lost Connection With God
Do you ever look on the ingredient label to find out what the main ingredient of your food is? Its always disappointing when you think youre eating a granola bar and then discover that the first ingredient is sugar!
For better or for worse, its good to know the main ingredient of our food. And actually, anxiety has a main ingredient as well: uncertainty.
Phobias, anxiety attacks, checking disorders, and OCD all have this common link with a sense of uncertainty.
The potential for danger + uncertainty = anxiety.
We are unsure of what will happen. We have no control or ability to influence that uncertain future. Therefore, we panic and engage in those unhealthy anxiety responses that we know so well.
But, imagine if you could be intimately connected to a divine Being who knew the future and could alleviate all your fears about what might happen. What if you were best friends with a loving God who placed you in a danger-free world? Thats the privilege that Adam and Eve had before they sinned.
There WAS no anxiety. Period.
They enjoyed such a close relationship with God that there was no sense of uncertainty, and there were no dangers in the world. Simply put, where there is no potential for danger and no feelings of uncertainty, anxiety just cant exist.
But once they ate the forbidden fruit, these two elements entered the picture.
There was suddenly a potential for danger . And on top of that, now there was uncertainty
