Anxiety And Depression Make Managing Work Stress Incredibly Hard

Because of my depression, finding a job that makes me happy can be challenging. It is hard to be excited about anything.

As an anxious person, having a job is great because the routine can feel really stabilizing. What doesn’t feel so great is the constant panic that you aren’t doing your best work or that you’re a fraud and any second you could be fired.

The goal is to find a job you love and you’ll have to work really hard to convince yourself that you even deserve it.

I struggle with this one on a daily basis. I love my job and I love the people I work with, but I constantly worry that I’m not working hard enough or being enough of a team player or that my endless array of typos will have me filing for unemployment.

I remind myself when these feelings come over me that depression and anxiety lie. I do my best work, and if I’m concerned about something actual, I talk to my boss about it.

We Can Be Kind To Ourselves

Depression likes to turn us against ourselves. Who knows our weaknesses better than we do?

Those thoughts of not being good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, get brought to the surface by depression. Whats worse, we start to agree with those thoughts.

We begin to accept those thoughts as truth. If we feel that way about ourselves, of course everyone else must feel that way too, right?

As my awareness of depressions influence grew, I started to regain my ability to be kind to myself.

It often means more than positive words in the mirror. I write down my positive thoughts in a journal, and I try to practice consciously reframing negative thinking.

When depression says youre not good at anything, I remember that ability to argue back. Im good at many things. I have so many positive traits we all do!

We are not our thoughts. Studies show acceptance and commitment therapy help to defuse those negative thoughts and lies that invade our personal space.

Depression doesnt get to tell us we arent good enough. We know were unique, and were the ones in command not depression.

Treatment For Anxiety And Depression

The good news is that if you believe you are suffering from anxiety or depression or a combination of both, these mental health conditions are incredibly treatable.

For anxiety, treatment is used to minimize avoidant behaviors and help you change your thoughts of feared consequences, Dr. Fox said. For depression, the goal is to help you feel positive emotion and increased energy to have a happier outlook and disposition.

There is no one plan that works best for all patients, but oftentimes treatment is a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and medication, such as SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs and other anti-anxiety medications depending on your symptoms. Long-term, combined treatments are typically recommended for those with co-occurring anxiety and depression.

Your doctor will look at whats necessary to get you at a functioning level with minimal or no symptoms, Dr. Fox said. A good therapist can help you unravel your symptoms and help you develop the skills to manage and overcome your anxiety and depression.

What Is It Like To Have High

What depression feels and looks like Vs. how to manage depression ...

People living with high-functioning anxiety and depression usually do not fit the stereotype of either disorder. In fact, many appear to be overachievers. The anxiety can serve as an energizer, driving the person towards achieving his or her goals. Its later, when in private, that the symptoms of depression tend to emerge. Feelings of self-doubt and self-criticism, fatigue, helplessness or guilt, moodiness, and a desire to avoid interaction with others become intensified. Because the stereotypical image of depression or anxiety doesnt match up with what people living with high-functioning anxiety and depression look like, it is hard to spot, even for sufferers to recognize in themselves. However, the symptoms of high-functioning anxiety and depression are the same as for non-high functioning anxiety and depression. The main difference is the ability to suppress or diminish the appearance of disruptions in life activities.

The Link Between Anxiety Depression And Drowning

What’s depression like? It’s like drowning, except everyone around you is breathing.”

As this anonymous quote suggests, anxiety and depression can hold you down, leaving you feeling helpless, cold, and isolated, while those around you go on with their everyday lives. This feeling of disconnectedness and despair pushes you down further, overwhelms your system, and makes it hard to find the motivation or energy to swim back to the surface.

What Anxiety And Depression Feel Like Is Difficult To Explain

A few ways to describe anxiety and depression as a feeling are that the body and heart become deaf, emotions no longer exist and the mind only seeks grayness.

Some people do not survive because they kill themselves. Depression is one of the most significant diseases worldwide and is still underestimated.

Depression, in a sense, means the absence of any action, but some small habits and routines can be interpreted as the first signs of the disease.

In the early stages of depression, people stop following the routine and ignore all social norms. There have been examples from patients describing the changes in habits during the early stages like ignoring phone calls, avoiding plans and appointments, not leaving home, not paying bills and avoid talking to anyone.

This is one of the best ways to describe what anxiety and depression feel like.

A slightly more severe side of it is sleeping too much and stopping with every hobby people like otherwise. They just go home and lie on the sofa until someone gives them something to eat, then lie there until they can drag themselves to bed.

This is not only harmful to the patients but also for the family members of the patient. The family members often go into a constant state of worry and again the whole environment becomes negative.

This is what anxiety and depression feel like to friends and family members of the patient.

In total, about 10% of the global population, currently suffers from depression requiring treatment.
