Im Always Getting Sick Or I Take A Long Time To Recover

Blame it on: High adrenalin and cortisol

Apart from stress management, the adrenals are also responsible for regulating your immune system. Remember a problematic project at work or a family crises that took time to resolve? You had sufficient energy and focus to get through the hard time . But, as soon as it was over, you fell sick. Sound familiar?

Ongoing stress can weaken the adrenals so much so that they are not able to sufficiently stimulate the immune system to keep you healthy. Im not just talking here about superficial conditions like cold and flu but more serious ones like cancer or autoimmune conditions.

I vividly remember my interview with Dr. Veronique , of The Breast Cancer Conqueror, who in spite of being that super healthy person, developed breast cancer.

Assessment Of Depression And Anxiety

High score on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, HADS-A and HADS-D, defined anxiety and depression, respectively . HADS is a self-administered questionnaire with seven questions for anxiety and seven for depression . Each item has four possible answers, scored on a Likert scale from zero to three, giving subscales from 0 to 21 when added. Zero is minimum and 21 is maximum symptom level on separate scales for anxiety and depression. A substitution of missing data was performed for persons who responded to five or six of the HADS-A and HADS-D questions by assuming similar responses on the questions not answered as in those answered . When from one to four questions were answered, the score was regarded as missing . HADS-A and HADS-D score of eight or more defined clinically significant anxiety and depression, respectively. We defined mild anxiety and depression by score 8- < 11 and moderate/severe anxiety and depression by score11 on the HADS-A and HADS-D-scale, respectively.

Assessment Of Psychotropic Medication Use

The Management of Urinary Incontinence

The NorPD is a national health register containing information about all prescriptions dispensed at Norwegian pharmacies. Each time a drug is dispensed, the generic name, Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical – code, strength, number of packages and defined daily dose are registered. DDD is the average maintenance dose per day for a drug used for its main indication in adults. The DDD reflects the total amount of drug prescribed and dispensed, and the overall amount of the actual drug during the last 6months was calculated. We defined drug use as dispensed prescription during the last 6months. In the dose-response analysis, we used four different degrees of DDD: no use, low DDD, medium DDD and high DDD. The cut-offs were set separately for each drug, due to different user profiles. The following drug groups were used in the analyses: Opioid analgesics , other analgesics , antiepileptic drugs , lamotrigine , antiparkinson drugs , antipsychotics , anxiolytics , hypnotics and sedatives , antidepressants and selective serotonine reuptake inhibitors , urologics , estrogens and progesterons and estrogens in combination . We selected drug groups due to literature indicating possible association with UI .

Variables selected from HUNT3 and NorPD were linked, using the identification number assigned to everyone living in Norway.

How Can Urinary Retention Be Prevented

People can prevent urinary retention before it occurs by treating some of the potential causes. For example, men with benign prostatic hyperplasia should take prostate medications as prescribed by their health care provider. Men with benign prostatic hyperplasia should avoid medications associated with urinary retention, such as over-the-counter cold and allergy medications that contain decongestants. Women with mild cystocele or rectocele may prevent urinary retention by doing exercises to strengthen the pelvic muscles. In most cases, dietary and lifestyle changes will help prevent urinary retention caused by constipation. People whose constipation continues should see a health care provider.

What Is Urinary Retention

Urinary retention is a condition where your bladder doesnt empty all the way or at all when you urinate. Your bladder is like a storage tank for urine. Urine is made up of waste thats filtered out of your blood by your kidneys. Once filtered, the urine moves to your bladder where it waits till its time to move through the urethra and out of the body.

When you have urinary retention, it can be acute or chronic . Acute means that it comes on quickly and it could be severe. Chronic urinary retention means that youve had the condition for a longer period of time.

The acute form of urinary retention is an emergency. In this case, youll need to see a healthcare provider right away. The chronic form happens most of the time in older men, but it can also occur in women.

When Should I See A Health Care Professional

See a health care professional right away if you are unable to urinate or have severe pain in your abdomen. Acute urinary retention can be life threatening.

If you have any of the other symptoms of urinary retention, such as trouble urinating, frequent urination, or leaking urine, talk with your health care professional about your symptoms and possible treatments. Chronic urinary retention can cause serious health problems.

Once constant pressures or a taxing situation puts you under chronic stress, the repeated triggering of your adrenal glands can cause high cortisol release one moment and low another. You cant get going so you start to rely more and more on coffee and tea to try to boost your flagging energy levels. But this article explains why the caffeine only causes further hormonal imbalance.

How Stress Steals Your Other Hormones

Normally pregnenolone works as a precursor hormone to help produce testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and DHEA . When your body is struggling to keep up with stress, it diverts an important hormone called pregnenolone to making more cortisol instead of progesterone. This reaction is known as the pregnenolone steal see the chart below:

The classic example is a woman stressed about getting pregnant who then adopts a child as her stress levels go down with the new baby, she gets pregnant with her own child. Im sure you have heard of stories like that. As her pregnenolone is not longer directed to over-produce cortisol, she can now also produce sufficient progesterone and get pregnant.

Symptoms Of Adrenal Fatigue

Urinary Incontinence

Traditional allopathic Western medicine doesnt recognize adrenal fatigue, even though the changes it can cause are now starting to be confirmed by science. Referring to it as exhaustion syndrome research from Umeå University in Sweden has found that people suffering adrenal fatigue have lower activity in their frontal lobes and also altered regulation of cortisol.

The study also found that people more prone to this condition are often over-achievers and perfectionists. This is not news to functional and integrative practitioners who see women suffering from this problem every day. They arrive feeling absolutely at the end of the line and suffering from these kinds of chronic complaints:

Your Body On Stress Symptoms Of Adrenal Fatigue

Youre about to go for a job interview. Your body treats this as a perceived threat and triggers a powerful danger signal. This activates your HPA , a feedback loop between your brain and other organs such as the kidneys. Your hypothalamus is like the command center and its job is to send urgent Watch Out messages to your pituitary and Adrenal glands. Within femtoseconds, your fight or flight response kicks in. This preps you to defend yourself or flee. So you experience a rapid cascade of other stress responses:

  • Your adrenal glands quickly pump out adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol. Part of their job is to ensure that glucose is quickly dumped into your bloodstream to give you energy and focus to handle this emergency.
  • Breathing and heart rate speed up in order to pump oxygen and nutrients to your brain and to your muscles, which tense up at the ready, in case you have to sprint away.
  • Your mind and hearing zoom in on sensory information, but you could not focus easily to write a report or read a book.
  • Blood-clotting clotting ability is heightened in case you sustain an injury.
  • Perspiration increases to help prevent your body from becoming overheated if you have to make a quick getaway.
  • Your pupils dilate and let in more light to sharpen your focus for fighting or fleeing.

Hey Anon,Do not dispair my friend. Ive been going through the craziest urinary issues myself for the past 6 months or so. It started off as what I thought was a prostate issue and it turns it is onlly slightly enlarged but I’m still peeing like a puppydog. Some days are better than others but I have not been able to really rest for six months now. Basically every 40 minutes or so. I’ve been put on Jaylen and just started vesicare. I’m going bonkers!! Had cystoscopy and urodynamics test swhich came out “ok” too. I’m also seeing an accupunturist just to touch all of the bases. QUESTION: Has anyone here tried any of these drugs or accupunture. I am also going to add everyone of the folks in these postes to my prayer list – I have new appreciation for health and wellness and for people in general. jimbob

    What Causes Adrenal Fatigue

Your adrenals are two walnut-shaped glands that weigh about 0.2 ounces or 5 grams each and sit on top of your kidneys. They produce hormones that have a range of functions in your body, but one of their most important jobs is to ramp up production of stress hormones when youre under duress.

A few weeks or months of stress are all it takes to start taxing your adrenals and ramp up signs of hormone imbalance. The trouble is your brain and body dont register the difference between a true health threat and a flip out over something in your day . It treats that argument with your partner, social anxiety at the dinner party and overwhelms you feel about your to do list the same as if your life was under threat from a pack of hungry wolves.
