What The Bible Says

What Does The Bible Say About…Fear, Anxiety, and Worry? – Ep. 3: WTBS | Impact Video Ministries

Concern about past misdeeds: Before becoming Christians, some people in the first century were drunkards, extortioners, sexually immoral, and thieves. Rather than dwell on their past, they changed their ways and trusted in Gods great mercy, which he extends willingly. With you there is true forgiveness, so that you may be held in awe, says Psalm 130:4.

Uncertainty about tomorrow: Never be anxious about the next day, said Jesus Christ, for the next day will have its own anxieties. His point? Address todays concerns. Do not compound them by bringing tomorrows forward, which can cloud judgment and lead to rash decisions. Also keep in mind that many anxieties may later prove to be unwarranted.

Money worries: A wise man once prayed: Give me neither poverty nor riches. Instead, he sought contentmenta feeling that merits Gods approval. At Hebrews 13:5, we read: Let your way of life be free of the love of money, while you are content with the present things. For has said: I will never leave you, and I will never abandon you. Unlike money, which canand doesfail, God never fails those who trust in him and lead a simple life.

I have not seen anyone righteous abandoned, nor his children looking for bread.

A Story Of Schizophrenia And Spiritual Exhaustion To A New Grace

A few years ago, someone drove two hours to meet for one of my coaching consultations. This person described their full journey with schizophrenia the debilitating anxiety, the multiple voices, and the hallucinations . This person tried every spiritual discipline and professional care, with very little progress. A mature ministry leader reasoned out that much more spiritual deliverance and work was needed to resolve his mental torment. They broke down and said to me

“I’m ready to give up on Jesus.”

This person followed Christ since childhood, but now thirty-something, after months of wrestling was ready to leave Christ once and for all.

Heres the deal I heard a wise teacher once say,

People dont walk away from God, theyre really walking away from what theyve been taught about Him.

I didn’t have a magic formula to remove all the anxiety, voices, or hallucinations I just helped this person to see that maybe they were wrestling with the wrong questions – from what they were taught about God. We discussed a different lens of grace FROM within the chaos, not a grace accessed by a formula, a deliverance ministry, or some other fight the good fight measure. We reframed with everything that was right and whole, the focus fight, not the works fight. Months of wrestling ended in 10 minutes!

Overall,

fight the good fight”

a full inheritance of life and a deep love from the Father that will never cast you away .

Here Are 32 Bible Verses To Help Fight Fear And Anxiety And To Remind You That God Is Always In Control

Luke 12:22-26Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Psalm 27:1The Lord is my light and my salvationwhom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my lifeof whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 55:22Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you he will never let the righteous fall.

Deuteronomy 31:6Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Isaiah 41:13-14For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you, declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Psalm 46:1God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 118:6-7The Lord is with me I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me he is my helper. Proverbs 29:25Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

Psalm 34:7The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

The Neuroscience Behind This Approach And Why They Get Stuck

Clinical research shows that people living with depression and/or anxiety have an overactive amygdala . In prolonged states this disrupts the brains ability to process thoughts and balance moods staying stuck in fight, flight, or freeze mode and it leads to physical fatigue.

The counsel to keep “fighting the good fight” is re-triggering the amygdala to stay in high alert and increases more scrupulous thinking to find the cause . Then, its trying to find the right spiritual fix formula to, first, get right with God and if its enough second, then God will release a blessing to remove the pain. Adrenaline may be so high in this effort that they may experience relief but it quickly returns with disappointment. In tears, after seeing no results the questions end up being,

“I’m doing everything I can, God where are you?

God why are you so silent what am I doing wrong?

God why are you not helping me God, please?”

Faith feels dim and completely exhausting!

But, there is another, and more positive, way to look at this to find comfort and actually experience more relieving hope.

Can We Really Live Our Lives Without Anxiety

The end of this Bible verse gives us a clue how we can do this. It tells us in everything with prayer and thanksgiving, let our requests be known to God. So when were faced with anxiety, were to pray and to be thankful.

I know in my life, a lot of my anxiety comes from not being thankful. I can be stressed out that I have all state choir and band competitions next weekend, or I can be thankful that I have a God given musical ability. I can be anxious that I might not get my paper written in time or I can be thankful that I have the opportunity to go to school and get an education. When we are thankful, it makes all the difference. Its hard to be anxious when youre always being thankful.

Bible Verses About Anxiety Soothes An Anxious And Worried Heart

At one point or another, we all have to deal with worry and fear. But we dont have to be paralyzed or be chained by it. Thankfully, there are Bible verses about anxiety that can soothe our fearful and worried hearts.

The promises of God and His assurance through His Word work their way in us as a healing balm. Through the scripture, He reveals His desire for us to live in His peace and find rest in His presence.

You Say God Is With Me Why Don’t I Feel Him

Second, this is where faith comes in: Faith is not based on feelings. Our faith is based on the fact that God came to earth in Jesus, died for our sins, rose from the dead and even today reigns as Lord over all. Nothing can change that truth. Not feelings, not a bad day, not an argument with a friend. Nothing.

It is O.K. to feel things. God created us in His image and as emotional beings. We can be honest with God about how we feel. However, dont let what you are feeling keep you from believing the truth of Gods word. Remember, as strong and as fluctuating as your feelings may be, Gods Word is truer than anything you feel and truer than anything you experience. The Bible has withstood the test of time and never changes . Beyond the verses on this page, here are more truths you can hold onto when times are tough: Loving God in Painful Times
